We promise not to disclose your private information to any third party except if required to do so by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal process, respond to claims, or to protect the rights, property or safety of IATSE Local 491 site users or the public. We take all reasonable care in handling your personal information to ensure its security both on and off line.
Types of Information Collected
Your IP address (your current Internet address) is stored in the server logs at the time of your visit, as it is on all web sites. We do not collect any personal information (such as a name or e-mail address) when you visit the site. If you have registered for the access to the Member’s Only section, specific information (listed below) will be collected at that time.
Cookies are small pieces of text that are stored on your hard drive between visits. These cookies do not collect, store or maintain any private, personally identifiable information. In the case of our site, cookies are necessary for the server’s ability to build the pages dynamically. By not accepting cookies for our site, you will not be able to log in to or use the Member’s Only section or pages.
If you have registered for access to the Member’s Only section, cookies are used to store your username and password so you don't have to re-enter them each time you visit.
You can delete the cookies from your browser’s preferences after you have visited our (or any) site or select a preference that allows you to accept or reject cookies individually. In the case of the latter, this does significantly slow down your Internet experience.
E-mail Page Listing
When you are registered for access to the Member’s Only section, your e-mail address will be listed on a page so other members may contact you. If you do not want to be listed on this page, please notify the web master, in writing, asking to not be listed.
Breaking News List Registration
If you registered for access to the Member’s Only section of the site (only granted to members of IATSE Local 491 as a benefit of membership) your then current e-mail address will be added to the Breaking News e-mail list. This list is used by the Local to send you important information in a timely manner. The Local will make no attempt to verify your e-mail address after the initial registration, and has no obligation to make sure the e-mail address listed for you is current or valid after the initial registration for access.
If, after you have registered, you change your e-mail address or no longer have an e-mail address, it is your obligation to change your registration to reflect this either by writing the web master or using the link provided in the Member’s Only section navigation menu. Your address will be removed from the Breaking News list if:
- more than two (2) messages are returned because of a bad (no-longer in existence) e-mail address, OR
- you are no longer a member "In Good Standing" of the local.
In the event the e-mail address for you is incorrect, has been removed from the Breaking News list, or you do not receive Breaking News notifications for other reasons, the Local has no other obligation to you other than to enter a then currently valid e-mail address in a timely manner after notification in writing that you are no longer receiving the messages and providing your current valid e-mail address. This does not apply if you are not listed with the Local as a member "In Good Standing".
Accuracy of Information
All information posted on the site has been checked for accuracy before it is posted. Errors are not intentional and potential liability resulting from any error is limited only to the timely posting of corrected information. Any posting to message boards is subject to the policy described in that section.
Postings on Message Boards
It is important to remember that when you provide personal information (e.g., last name, address, phone number) in a online posting, that information is visible to anyone registered to a message board, and may be used by someone in a manner unintended by you. For that reason, we discourage you from posting any personal information on this or any message board.
Messages posted should conform to the standards of good taste. Moderators have the responsibility and authority to remove any messages or postings that do not follow this guideline.
